Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Core Skills Training

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Core Skills Training presents a set of four, 2-day workshops that offer an in depth opportunity to develop the core skills essential to the practice of EFT. Each segment includes instruction, role play, observation of a live interview, and consultation. To complete the course, each participant will present a short video clip of their own work.

Who may attend?

This training is recommended for all professionals who counsel couples, including marriage and family therapists, social workers, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, and students preparing for these professions.

All participants must have completed an EFT externship before enrolling in this course.

Video/Case Presentation Requirements:

In order to receive Certificate of Completion, each participant will present a case during one of the 4 weekends. Each case presentation needs to include a 10-minute video recording along with a case presentation form.

Cancellation Policy

About the Trainers

Elana Katz, LCSW, is a senior faculty member at the Ackerman Institute for the Family where she teaches advanced family therapy and directed the Family Mediation Program for more than 20 years. She has presented nationally and internationally, including annual meetings of the American Family Therapy Academy, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and the Psychotherapy Networker.

One of the first therapists in New York to become certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an approach that helps clients understand and change their patterns in key relationships, Ms. Katz is now one of the sixty Trainers in EFT worldwide.

​

She has published a number of articles and has been quoted by the New York Times, the Associated Press, and other media outlets, including National Public Radio.

Lorrie Brubacher, M.ED., a registered marriage and family therapist, with 20 years of experience as an individual, couple and family therapist.

​

In addition to marriage and family therapy experience, she is a counsellor educator, having taught in Canada at the University of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba and the University of British Columbia. In the United States, she has presented at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.

 

She provides consultation, supervision and training to couple, marriage and family therapists seeking accreditation with various professional couple and family therapy organizations.

 

Recipient of the 2007 John Banmen Award for outstanding service and contribution to the British Columbia Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
